30th April – 6th May, 2017….the week in pictures

Sunny mornings and interesting sunsets, the first orchids of the year, warblers warbling and an unlucky snake are amongst this week’s highlights in Unforgettabubble. Here is the week 30th April – 6th May, 2017 in pictures…

The sunset turns out to be much more interesting than the moths during a trapping session on Sutherbruff Rigg in Dalby Forest. Only three moths to the light.

The following morning shows promise with sun glaring through the trees on Sneverdale…

…and continues throughout the morning at Ellers Wood at the southern edge of Dalby Forest.

Garden Warblers are busy warbling between Haygate and Ellerburn Bank…

and Willow Warblers seem to be on every tree!

In the far distance, a Kestrel sits on a wall at Ellerburn Bank, concentrating…

then suddenly, partially hidden by branches, pounces on a snake…

…then quickly disappears over the forest!

Unlucky snake or could it be a Slow Worm?!

A search for butterflies and day-flying moths in Seivedale Fen was more productive than the evening attempts,

with a nice Burnet Companion moth nestling into the grass…

…and Green Veined Whites flitting around Lesser Stitchwort.

In the botany world, the first Early Purple Orchids of the year in Dalby Forest flower alongside the Primroses on Haygate and…

…across the valley in the beech woods on Sutherbruff Rigg.

Red Campion is now well underway in the forest

At last there is a bit of luck with the moth trapping with a Coxcomb Prominent coming to the light

And, finally, there is a stand-off when my walking companion refuses to part with the ball!
